I have lived in San Francisco for 25 years and to this day, there are still things that I have not done. In 2020, we added a cute corgi to our family. If you are also finding yourself googling “things to do with dog in San Francisco” or “dog-friendly places in San Francisco,” then hopefully this post can help some of you out there!
Here are my top places that I recommend taking your dog to in San Francisco:
1. Sutro Baths and Lands End Trail
Sutro Baths is one of the most unique places in San Francisco. With or without a dog, I always bring my friends here because going here leaves you with this indescribable feeling— that feeling you get when you see how beautiful earth is for what it is. The trail is easy, so you and your best buddy can enjoy the hike together.
There are also many smaller trails that branch off the main trail. One of them I’d recommend is to check out the Lands End Lookout, near Mile Rock Beach.
Tip: Check the weather before you go. On a windy day, it can get very cold! On a sunny and clear day, you can see the golden gate bridge throughout the trail.
2. Fort Funston
Fort Funston is one of the best places that I frequently bring my dog. I recommend going here because you have many options: walk on trail, go the beach, and or even go off trail. The best thing here is that you can let your dog off-leash! There is plenty of doggos and for us humans, plenty of parking!
This place can get very windy. I’d recommend bringing a hat and something warm. Sunglasses can also help with sand that gets into your eyes.
3. Mission District
The Mission District is packed with things to see and do. Every block is different, so grab a snack or drink and walk through the streets with your pup! There is SO much art to see and unique stores to check out. The weather is always warm here, so I definitely recommend taking a stroll here.
4. Crocker Amazon Park
Crocker Amazon Park is a but further from central San Francisco, but this is my neighborhood park and my corgi’s favorite to go to. It’s a park right in the middle of multiple residential neighborhoods, so it’s a very family friendly park. There is plenty of space for your dog to walk and roam around. My corgi loves rolling in the grass here too!
5. Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach is my childhood beach and I love bringing my corgi here too. The beach usually drains her energy, so she is asleep for hours after coming here. This beach gets pretty windy and cold, so I definitely recommend bundling up. I recommend grabbing a smoothie bowl and some camping chairs to enjoy a nice afternoon with your dog here, and maybe even watch the sunset.
